Children are a gift from God. If we see it any other way, we will miss out on the joyful blessings that accompany each and every human being born to us earthlings.
"Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate." Psalm 127:3-5
God's promises are true and forever. We cannot take any life lightly as if it were not our responsibility. The outward appearance of our children is not a measurement as to their ability to perceive, learn, or love. It is up to us to know them, guide them, teach goodness and to love them.
We must help them to be achievers, leading them to become independent and pursue their passions. Yes, it's 'easier said than done' but it does not minimize our responsibility.
Let's do our parenting knowing God's promise that they shall be "as arrows in the hand of a might man" and that they will "speak with the enemies in the gate."
This is a clock I have in my kitchen, representing our children in the order of their births and who are now adults. The first three born from Carmen their mom. The fourth is my oldest daughter, my first baby girl that I had at age 16. The fifth and sixth are from my first marriage. The seventh is a son born from his mother Iveth. The eighth is our son together.
Personally, I love and pray for each one for the Lord has allowed me to minister unto each of their lives and their children, our grandchildren. It is a great privilege to show them His love, that they too may desire the way of the Lord. We too are parents of these souls, to bless each one.
